More About Dom

I have worked with individuals, couples, children, teenagers and families for over 25 years, initially very focused in the arena of birth and parenting, but then my work expanded into working with all beings who seek to find increased health, resolution and freedom in their mind, body and relationships. I initially trained with Janet Balaskas at the International Centre for Active Birth, where I ran classes and workshops for a number of years and now work there teaching on the psychology of birth as part of their professional training team.

I also trained with the Institute of Craniosacral Therapy in 1999 and have run a busy cranio practice ever since. My interest in relationships and family dynamics then led me to train at Relate, first as a relationship counsellor and then a family counsellor, ( post grad systemically trained) where I worked for ten years, and now work as part of their professional development team now and then teaching conflict resolution and counselling skills. I now have a thriving practice as a couple and family counsellor as well as working one to one with teenagers and individuals.

My own journey as a woman, and a mother, has always led me to explore further for myself, and being a kinaesthetic learner, I always like to learn things from the inside! In my twenties I studied with various shamanic women’s healers such as Vicky Noble, Jeannine Parvati Baker, and Tamara Slayton . I also came across a wonderful teacher of women’s sexual and menstrual health, Cabby Laffey who taught me much about healing yourself by understanding and supporting your menstrual cycle. Those years as a young woman getting to know the workings and physiology of my body set me up well in terms of women’s health.

I trained to be a yoga teacher, firstly in 1990 as a birth yoga teacher, and then in 1997 as a yoga teacher for all, in the Scaravelli style, which brings connection, awareness and integration to the body. I still practice yoga and attend workshops and retreats with my teachers.

I have completed a 3 year training on early attachment issues, embodiment and trauma with the American teacher Karlton Terry, and then a two year Birth Journey training learning about early imprinting and birth trauma, with Conscious Embodiment trainings in the UK. In 2007 I also trained with James Burgess to become a 7 Words guide., a system of authentic communication.

Through the years I have trained menstrual Health practitioners, doulas and antenatal teachers as well as training people in counselling skills and active listening skills. I have worked running women’s circles, with young girls in schools around menarche, and at summer camps, I have run trainings and retreats in Lithuania, Portugal and Brazil with women, and love to be part of the international women’s health movement. I am a firm believer of the idea “the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rocks the world”, and feel women have a unique role to play in healing, ecology and transformation, alongside our brothers who will offer from their own place as men.

I am the author of one book The seven secrets of Joyful Birth and am working on a second book on relationships. I have been a speaker at various conferences, written for journals and spoken on the radio on topics around women’s health and couple relationships.

In 2007 I co-founded Relaxed birth and Parenting to both train professional birth workers and support mums, partners and dads and am now excited to be launching our new training Women’s Wisdom.
